Description
OE+ DB1400CP front brake pad set. Ceramic, which is the step up from the organic sets on our shelf. Sixteen sets in stock, so a workshop can take a few.
The 9mm step is the detail that matters. The label reads D/P F AVW POLO GOLF 9mm STEP. That step is the height of the ledge on the backing plate. It separates this pad from several other Audi and VW fronts that otherwise look identical. Measure it on the old pad before you order. A pad with the wrong step will not sit properly in the carrier.
Where it goes. DB1400 is the front set across a good slice of the nineties Volkswagen Group range:
-
Audi A4 B5, 1.8 through to 2.8, roughly 1995 to 2001
- VW Golf
- VW Passat
- VW Polo
- VW Vento
Why ceramic. A ceramic compound runs quieter than semi-metallic and throws far less dust. It also holds its friction level better once things get hot. It is easier on the disc too, which matters on a car where the front discs are not cheap. The trade off is that ceramic wants a proper bed-in before it works at its best, so do not judge it on the first drive.

Fitment
Anything calling for DB1400 on the front with the 9mm step. Send the rego through and we will check it, because the B5 A4 alone came with more than one front brake setup depending on engine.
Fitting
- Check the step on the old pad against ours before anything comes apart.
- The carrier bolts on these are usually done up tight. Have the right size socket ready rather than rounding them.
- Fit as a pair and bed them in over the first couple of hundred kilometres.
- Some of these cars run a wear sensor. Order a new one alongside if yours has one.
Best fitted by a qualified mechanic.
